Dear loved one,
Have you heard of the story of the Cherokee Indian youth's rite of passage?
His father
takes him into the forest, blindfolds him and leaves him alone. He is
required to sit on a stump the whole night and not remove the blindfold
until the rays of the morning sun shines through it. He cannot cry out
for help to anyone. Once he survives the night, he becomes a MAN. He is
expected not to tell the other boys of his experience, because each lad
must come into manhood by going through the same process. During the
night the boy is naturally terrified. He can hear all kinds of noises.
Wild beasts must surely be all around him he thinks all through the
night, maybe even some human might do him harm. The wind blows the grass
and earth, and shakes his stump, but he sits stoically, never removing
the blindfold. It would be the only way he would become a man! Finally,
after a horrific night the sun appears and he removes his blindfold. It
is then that he discovers his father sitting on the stump next to him.
He had been with him the entire night, protecting his son from harm.
This
Monday morning, be aware that you are never alone even when we cannot
visibly recognise it. God is watching over you, sitting on the stump
next to you. When trouble comes - the loss of a job, relationships,
opportunities, pains or disappointment and all seems dark and lonely,
all we have to do is reach out to Him for He is our ever present help in
times of challenges. His presence is available to all those who
acknowledge Him.
Have a great week!
Shalom!
